The Avamar plug in for SAP with Oracle uses the BR*Tools backint interface to back up and restore the Oracle database. So on a supported SAP server there will be the SAP Oracle database, the SAP BR*Tools, and Avamar client and the SAP with Oracle plug-in. After installing, the SAP plug-in needs to be linked to the Avamar server and the backup device type set. SAP high-availability can be installed on either Solaris or Windows.
The SAP with Oracle plugin supports the same backup types for the database as the Oracle plug-in, and can be scheduled or run on-demand.
When a backup request is sent from the mcs process on the Avamar server, the avagent spawns the avsap process, which then runs the brbackup (or brarchive), which runs the backint process, which then uses the avtar process to send data to the gsan process. When the backup is run from the cli, the administrator is going to directly run the brbackup, which spawns the backint and one or more avtar processes.
REstore can only be done through the CLI, not through the Avamar Administrator. Up to 10 sessions are supported in a multi-streaming restore. In a restore, the backint process is actually run from the brrestore or brrecover, which queries the Avamar server for the backup files and starts the restore using avtar.
